The Second Full-length Novel that Becca Published
On Tuesday, August 2nd, four weeks ago, I got my first set of author’s copies sent out to me from the publishing company. I would like to keep everyone in the loop as I go through the final stages of publishing and marketing “Was I Ever Normal”. My novel will be released to the general public shortly. I got my first set of author’s copies on Tuesday night exactly a week ago.
What’s Was I Ever Normal All About?
The novel centers around Cassie, a young girl growing up with childhood-onset schizoaffective disorder, who is determined to hide her symptoms from the world, so she spins an intricate web of lies so deep it threatens to dissolve her.
At the age of twelve, she finally realizes that she needs more help than she can give herself. Cassie tells her therapist and parents about her alternate reality. She even tells them about the command hallucinations and the scrambled thoughts. They don’t believe her. Instead, they accuse her of “manufacturing symptoms as an attempt to avoid working on the real issues”.
What’s a Novel in Verse?
This novel is a novel in verse like the popular best-selling author Ellen Hopkin’s novels or Winter Girls by Laurie Halse Anderson. It’s basically the poetic use of words to tell a story.
“Was I Ever Normal” is a whole book that reads like a novel but is a series of free-verse poems that tell the story of Cassie and her attempts to be a normal kid. I’ve been reading it aloud during about half of my YouTube Livestream Events. I know that you guys will enjoy it. It took a whole year to write it, another six months to edit it, another six months to find a publisher and another year of working with the publishing company to get me to this point.
Right now we are just in the beginning stages of the marketing of the book. The publishing company has a whole marketing team, and each author is assigned a contact who organizes book signings, gives out free copies of my book to various media contacts, gets me on TV and on the radio, and does so much more.

The first four weeks of the marketing program have passed. The next step is to start sending copies of my book out to media contacts to see if they are interested and willing to promote my book or do a news story about me. We will also will be sending my books to various bookstores and libraries and Amazon. It will be available as an e-book as well.
I have a meeting with my contact at the marketing department on Monday so I will let you know then what more information I get.
